Connecting a microphone

Short answer

Connect your microphone and switch the input to MIC. Begin speaking or singing at your normal performance level while carefully raising the input volume.

Input channels

Bromley 750 has two input channels for microphones or mono instruments, that can be mixed with any other selected input and use the built-in effects. The two combo jacks support both XLR and ¼-inch TRS cables and are located on the back of the speaker, behind a hatch.

Avoid microphone feedback

Bromley 750 is a very powerful speaker, so be extra careful to avoid feedback when using a microphone.

Tips to prevent feedback:

  • Stand at least 1 metre (3 ft) away from the Bromley 750.

  • Keep the microphone above speaker level and never point it directly towards the unit.

  • Bromley 750 has drivers on the front, back, sides, and top. Avoid pointing the microphone directly at any of these surfaces.

  • Never place a microphone on top of Bromley 750, unless the input volume is set to 0 or the microphone is switched off.

How to connect a microphone

  1. Plug the microphone into INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 on the back of the speaker.

  2. Switch the input for your channel to MIC.

  3. Speak or sing at a normal performance level while carefully raising the input volume on the front panel. The sound should be clear, and the red clip light should only flicker at peak levels. If the red clip light is solid red, turn down the input volume.

  4. Remember, never point the microphone directly towards the speaker when turned on.

Understanding the red clip light

The red clip light helps you set the correct input volume:

  • No light: The input volume is set correctly.

  • Flickering red: If the light flickers briefly when you sing loudly, the input volume is set correctly.

  • Solid red: The input volume is too high.
